Debate Shenanigans: Meridian Madness

 Meridian Madness

So, I have been seriously lacking lately, and this was a draft I wrote up like (MORE THAN) a month ago, but I don't want to change the tenses, get over it.

Last weekend I had an amazing opportunity to compete at Meridian Madness with the Renaissance Speech & Debate team, this is one of many tournaments I've competed in, but it also happens to be the first I try a new speech format!

Speech
I participated in Radio Broadcast Speech for the first time, ever, this weekend. Speech has never been my thing, I tried an Original Oratory last year, and when I tell you I bombed it, it went up in flames. It was one of the most embarrassing moments in my life, I read off my paper (highly frowned upon by the way). Then I moved on to panel for a few tournaments, which is like a glorified socratic seminar. After talking to Elias, my beloved novice, I decided Radio would be a fun idea, and it ended up being the right choice. After playing Shannon Bell (her last name was Lynch, but turns out that is also highly frowned upon as a southerner), I ended up placing second in this tournament for speech. Finn & Cooper, two amazing seniors at renaissance, placed 1st in Duo Interpretation, and I am so proud! Finn double placed in two events, and so did Colby! Renaissance definitely kicked butt in speech at Meridian Madness, and I'm so excited to continue with Radio and see where it takes me!

Debate
As usual, I competed in Public Forum, with Addilynn Mason (one of my favorites). And we had a blast. Unfortunately, we didn't place, but this was a rough tournament, and we had a couple crappy rounds. But we won 3/5! And we got the satisfying win we deserved.

Benson did great, so did Cooper, Ethan, and Colby as always, and I could never be happier to be apart of such an amazing culture and community.

PSA
Okay, today is March 31, so I've been working on this for literally over two months... But we had District Speech on Saturday, and I qualified for State in Radio!!

Double PSA, it's August now.
